Overview

There are six international airports in the UK and Heathrow is the biggest and busiest - so what part does marketing play? In this virtual work experience, we’re going to take a look at the branding and marketing behind the UK’s busiest hub and the larger trends in the marketing industry. We’ve got a whole module dedicated to digital marketing practices, so you’re sure to find an area where you’ll thrive.

What's included

In this virtual work experience programme, you’ll get a behind the scenes look at the marketing behind one of Europe’s busiest airports. You’ll understand the methods taken to attract a wide variety of customers and how customer research is the key to their success. You’ll take part in quizzes and thought-provoking activities, we’ll also encourage you to do your own research to find out whether marketing is the right career path for you.

An Introduction to Heathrow

In this introductory module, we’ll hear all about Heathrow’s story, including its history, what it does now and what it wants to look like in the future. We’ll cover topics such as who does what at Heathrow and how to meet future challenges.

Industry Introduction

In this module, we’re going to introduce you to the marketing sector and the role of marketing at Heathrow. Why do people choose to take off from Heathrow? In this module, you’ll find out. You’ll even explore what a day-in-the-life of a marketer looks like!

Marketing and branding

Branding and marketing - What’s the difference? Well, in this module we’ll find out. We’ll be discussing everything from marketing channels to consumer behaviour and user personas. It sounds tricky, but you’ll be a pro in no time. We're so confident that you'll get it, that our activity is even based on user personas!

Digital Marketing

Digital marketing covers all of the branding, advertising, and communications that companies do online. In this module, we’re covering it all from Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) to how to measure success. In this module’s activity, you are going to get hands-on with mind mapping a social media campaign.

Employability

Finally, this employability module will equip you with all the essential skills needed as you enter the world of work - think all things teamwork and leadership. You’ll also be given advice on how to perfect your CV to ensure your engineering career has a smooth takeoff.

When will I hear back if I have been successful with my application?

Once you have applied for your programme, you will receive a confirmation email. You will be notified about the outcome of your application via email at least 3 days before the programme start date. Good luck!

Can I apply to multiple programmes?

Yes, you can sign up to multiple programmes with us. The live talks will be available as recordings, so you can catch up on any potential clashes.

Who can take part in the programme?

Most of our programmes require students to be in school/college. Some programmes require students to be based in specific regions of the UK, this is stipulated by the organisations themselves, and is not defined by Springpod.

However, the ages mentioned on our programmes are more of a guideline than a strict limit. As such, we more than welcome older students to apply as well!

Will I receive a certificate on completion of the programme?

You will receive a certificate on completion of your programme. It will be made available to download whenever your programme is marked as complete.
